Rockies Are Swept Out of Florida.
We went into Florida off of a sweep of our own and ran into the the Marlins. Marlins have really put themselves out front of the NL by starting the season 10-2. We had a chance to avoid the sweep in game three but Beau Mills hit a walk off single off of Manny Corpas. In game one the Marlins jumped on us early scoring 3 runs in the first. We tried to come back scoring 1 run in the 4th, 5th, and 6th innings but could not hold them off as the final score ended up 5-3. Game 2 was not even close ending in a 8-1 loss.

Rockies Sweep The Giants
After getting off to a rough start to the year losing their opening series to the Diamondbacks the Rockies swept the Giants in 3 games. Starting pitchers shined for Colorado going at least 7 innings in all 3 games. In game 1 we saw Aaron Cook go 8 strong innings giving up 6 hits and 0 runs. Manny Corpas came in to finish the game off getting his 2nd save of the season. Game 2 Miguel Cabrera and Seth Smith led the Rockies combining to go 4 for 7 at the plate and driving in 4 of the 7 runs on 1 HR from Smith. Game three was much like the 2nd game with the Rockies winning another easy game 11-4. Cole Hamels landed his 1st win of the season going 7 innings giving up 2 earned runs on 8 hits while striking out 10.

New Year! New Faces! New Hopes!
The fans of the Colorado Rockies are starting to feel the butterflies as spring training is upon us. The excitement is there for a few different reasons. Reason number one is that there are a number of new faces coming to town lead by the biggest acquisition of them all Miguel Cabrera. Rockies will also welcome Ryan Doumit, Ryan Theriot, and Juan Guiterrez. General Manager, Eric Myers, has fans wondering if he knows what he he doing by moving some very poplar players like Todd Helton, Jeff Baker, Carlos Ruiz, Ubaldo Jimenez, and Ian Stewart. When asked that question Myers responds by saying " I feel we have improved our bullpen and balanced out our lineup to put us in position to make a run at the postseason this year. The hardest move of them all is when we had to say goodbye to Helton. However I think we landed the future face of the franchise in Cabrera. So all in all I feel very good about the moves that where done this offseason."
Only time will tell if Myers is either going to be called a rookie genius or a rookie idiot and trust me the fans of Colorado will let him know what one he ends up being.

Colorado Rockies fans where again shocked today when they learned that 24 year old, Ian Stewart, was being traded to the Chicago Cubs. Only one week after the most popular player on the team Todd Helton was shipped out to the Nationals, Myers has now moved the most poplular young player on the team.

When asked about the move Myers stated "I know I have come in here and made some moves that are making the Rockies faithful a little nervous but I promise the moves I have made this offseason are going to get into the playoffs in 2010.".
Rumors around town is that this deal that moved Stewart and closer Kerry Wood was a move to fix his mistake of taking on Wood's contract in a deal last week. When asked about that rumor Myers responed "I have heard that also. It could be further from the truth. Now I will not deny that this move got us closer to budget but when I brought Kerry in it was to be the closer/setup of this team." Then why move him a reporter asked. Myers said "because the Cubs to me with an offer that I thought could improve the organization and that deal included Wood."
Rockies Make A Huge Move!
Rockies have announced a deal today that is going to excite and dissapoint Rockies fans all over. General Manager Eric Myers announced during his Monday conference call that he had made a huge deal with the Washington Nationals saying "I just inked a deal that will move Todd Helton, David Aardsma, along with a few specs for Miguel Cabrera. This was a very tough decision to move Todd knowing that he has been the face of this team for years. Fans need to embrace this as a very positive move that brings in one of the top young players in the league."
If this is a sign of things to come the offseason could be very interesting here in Denver. We all knew that Myers was a aggressive GM that wanted to mold this team to his idea of what it will take to get into the playoffs in 2010, but to have your first move as GM be the one that moves fan favorite and cornerstone of the franchise for years is a very risky one.
Rockies Introduce New GM
Colorado Rockies called a press conference today to announce the hiring of Eric Myers as the new GM. This came as a shock only because Dan Stamey seemed to have the Rockies on a clear path to winning over the next few years. Dan had decided he wanted more of a challenge and will be taking over as the Cardinals GM.
Myers said " I am very excited to be here and extremely lucky to be taking over a team that is right on the doorstep of success. Dan did a great job of laying a foundation ready to win! I will be doing a lot of learning and talking to players and staff over the next few weeks to get ready for this offseason."
